How to Disable and Enable USB/Mobile Drive

We know that there are many sources of computer virus spread with the USB Drive or Mobile Hard Drive. To protect your computer safe and health, we can disable the USB Drive in Windows 10 or other Windows system you are using.

Here use the USB Drive as the example. And this is only worked for USB storage such as USB flash drive or Mobile Hard Drive. After this done, you can use USB mouse, keyboard, camera as normal.

How to Disable USB Flash Drive in Windows 10

Step 1: Type "Regedit" in the search box and click this command above.

Tips: In Windows 10, you can type the command in the search box "Ask me anything", this is different from Windows 7. In Windows 7, you need to open the run window first by the combination shortkeys "Windows"+"R".

Step 2: Clicks to find the right document file: USBSTOR.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\USBSTOR

Tips: At the right side, you will see some files list.

Step 3: Find the file name "Start" and double click your left mouse to open it.

You will find there are three items: Value name, Value data and Base.

Step 4: Change the Value data to 4.

change value to 4

And then click OK button. All things are done.

After that, you can test if it works. When you insert USB Drive or Mobile Hard Drive to the USB port, you will find the computer had no remind to tell you that your Drive can work properly.

Tips: This operation is only worked for USB Storage device, not for USB keyboard or USB mouse.

And if you want to enable them what you need do is follow these steps and change the value from 4 to 3.
